Small miracles and Hope at Martha's Vineyard Holistic Retreat
Caring for the sick is giving love and sharing one's heart and soul. It confers to wellness in general its most achievable form of excellence. By sharing these priceless feelings and values, the wellness professional expands his or her own being, exists in a higher dimension and feels more complete at the end of the day. This is true especially when the health care giver is rewarded with good or better health for the client.
These feelings are mine today after a long march toward health and after I cared for so many clients some of whom being really sick and feeling like I am their last hope. I am submerged today by the story of that 57 year-old woman who was suffering from Fibromyalgia ,Chronic fatigue syndrome and Environmental illness for more than ten years, Mrs. L an executive secretary at a computer chip and photocopier gases company in New York, has been experiencing bouts of excruciating pain, abdominal discomfort, headache, fatigue, behavior changes, mood swings, nervousness, skin rashes, anorexia, nausea and you name it: a cohort of debilitating symptoms that put in jeopardy her social and professional life. As a consequence of so much suffering Mrs. L left her well paying job to seek treatment, which she did by going from any new specialist freshly arrived in the city to the most remote practitioner's office in the desert. She would have some periods of relief without knowing which of the eight or nine multicolor pills she was taking would have provided that short relief. At last, a friend of hers who was sent to rest de-stress and detox at the Martha's Vineyard Holistic Retreat – encouraged her to come see me.
When I first saw the lady, I felt compassion and empathy since I could see myself through her, my own past made of prolonged miseries. Now we know that Mrs. L. symptoms and discomforts are due to the environment she was living in, both at work and at home. At work first, because photocopier gases as well as computer chips are among the most known occupational and chemical hazards; they are as harmful as cigarette smoking, asbestos, ethanol, pesticides, insecticides, carbon monoxide, lead, mercury and all other ubiquitous chemicals that invade our lives as a result or as a side effect of technology and "civilization". Indoor and outdoor pollutants and toxins; they attack our body systems either as ingestants, inhalants and contact. With all this said her nutritional status was suffering even if she thought she ate well.
I practice Diet Detox with the scientific assumption that an organism loaded with toxins should be cleansed and voided of its poisons. That is so simple yet so grossly misunderstood. Along that continuum we find cleansing, proper diet, vitamins, enzymes and minerals, exercise, meditation, mind detoxification, spiritual harmonization and so on…
Most of my clients are surprised by how pleasant the detoxing process is. You get to enjoy an infinite variety of vegetable soups, fresh veggie juices, and protein shakes you create yourself, so you don't have to deprive yourself of the flavors you love. They taste great and you drink them, so there's no need to choke down a handful of "horse pills." As you lose weight I'd like you to pay much-needed attention to your self care, and learn more about what that looks and feels like. The MV Detox is also safe. The theory behind it involves consuming maximum nutrition in minimum doses obtained from food sources, not chemicals. Of course, it's always important to consult your doctor before making any lifestyle changes.
Today Mrs. L .feels happy; she has returned to a normal life, she takes good follow up care of herself, enjoys a warm family life, eats healthy food, maintains an optimal body weight, does colonics when needed, and visits the retreat at least every year. She is mentally and spiritually healthy, giving thanks to God for her physical rebirth and for the day she has encountered the retreat. Mrs. L is one of the dozens of former clients –some of them celebrities–who are eager to offer their testimonials the same way a lot of friends have done so in my New York Times Best seller book 21 Pounds in 21 Days –The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox with the co-author James Hester. About this best seller Alberto Martinez, MD wrote that my book offers "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people to experience a fresh start, a new beginning that can help prevent health problems or the recurrence of existing ones, and to learn how to nourish themselves properly for life".
