Touch!
Some things we take for granted and forget about, until we experience them again, like the importance of touch in our lives!
As an aesthetician and an energy worker, I am amazed to see the lack of touch in people's lives and how they respond to it once they receive it. For some people, it is the absence of a caring partner or friend, or a woman deeply effected by her now empty nest. Her children now all grown up and gone out into the world. She doesn't realize just how much she misses the physical connection with her children until they have moved on. It's also a once loving relationship that still possesses love, yet has dwindled over the years and has been reduced to minimal physical contact.
Some people are afraid of touch for whatever reason their past has dealt them. Even our society makes you think twice before touching someone for fear that it is wrong. How many kids go off to school without a hug? How many elderly men and women are alone at home all day? Such a small thing can make someone so happy, and yet we somehow forget about it!

When I begin to give a someone a facial and gently massage their face, neck, and shoulders, I can feel and see them slowly releasing their pent up tension. As I gently hold their head, I feel that I have the whole world in the palm of my hands. They feel warm and safe. With a deep breath, they exhale and for some begin to talk, mostly about problems or worries that they have been holding in. They relax in a way that helps them to let go, forget, or just realize that things in their lives are really not that bad. For some people, they release stress while they drift in and out of sleep. Massage and pressure points work wonders for most people, leaving them feeling lighter. It really does not take too long to unwind and being touched is one of the easiest way to achieve this.
Some people have shared with me that while having a facial, it reminds them of their mother's touch that has been long gone. For some, it brings them to tears as they realize that they have not been touched in a non-sexual way for a long time. I find this true of both young and older clients; I even get a hug from them after the treatment is over saying “Thank you”. They feel great, relaxed, and ready to get on with their day in a positive way. Their Time with me helps them realize the importance of taking a little Time for themselves.
A meaningful hug can go a long way, try to think about the importance of human touch. Give someone you know, or have only just met, a loving, caring HUG today!
